WEAR TESTING OF JADE LUBE WITH VARIOUS OTHER FLUIDS:

This wear test study uses a ball-on-disc apparatus which applies a high stress to a sliding wear system such that the lubrication regime can be characterized as "boundary layer", meaning that the surface asperities penetrate the lube film and are in direct contact, causing severe wear until the surfaces become increasingly conforming, at which point the growing contact surface area gradually allows the film strength of the lubricant to carry a sustainable load. The applied load divided by the wear patch area yields a "pounds per square inch" or psi load rating that represents the lubricant's ability to create a stable hydrodynamic film, grown from catastrophic wear to a steady state load carrying capability.

This is the friction testing machine with the motor on the right, the test specimen in the center, and the lever mechanism on the left. The lever mechanism can apply very heavy loads to the specimen holder.
 
The specimen holder is shown empty, just above the two inch dia. rotating ring. The specimen could be a square, round or spherical coupon, held in place by the set screw, which would lead to line contact or point contact that would grow rapidly to an elliptical contact patch. The surface area of the contact patch is used to derive the load in psi carried by the lube film.

These scar photos are all taken at 60x magnification with a 12g tare load plus the levers,
which equals a 19 lb point load on the specimen. Cycle time was 60 sec per run.
Sample one is the bentonite with 2% Torque Reducer added.

Sample two shows the slightly smaller scar size using 4% Torque Reducer. Doubling the Torque Reducer percentage only gave less than 10% improvement.
